mourn or celebrate???

The other day I was at my grand aunts funeral...and there was a conversation going on amongst the older folks, about how in some countries they actually celebrate the death instead of mourning it...and boy was I in the wrong place...cos i tride to put my 2 sense worth into the conversation, and gave my view as to how cool it would be to be celebrated instead of mourned....

After I had been stared down the conversation was ended with the following line which I think say's it all..." ..but we're Srilankans..we cant be happy at funerals, we'll always be sad.."

Isnt it better to celebrate the persons life and how they lived, instead of mourning the fact that they arent' alive anymore.....???

of course it's a sad occassion, and I'm not saying let's have a rock concert...though that would be awesome....but maybe we should be able to give thanks for being blessed with that persons presence instead of standing around and weeping....

Today I received a gift...
It was a little gift...but full of surprises....
The wrapping on the gift was filled with colours and images of my life...
And it showed my life as it changed into vivid images....
Of people who had touched my life and left without a word in silence....
It showed me places I had visited and those I long to see
People I loved and enemies I had made....
Giants I had brought down and angels I had lifted into the sky...
This gift was special...and so was the gift bearer...
This gift my freind was...my life....

To everyone who touched my life.....you are a part of the wrapping on my gift....
Thank you for making it colourful...

And beyond life???

What's beyond life????
The universal question......
Is it a life with an abundance of love and laughter....rivers flowing with milk and honey....palm trees and beautiful beaches...
or.... is it an eternity of suffering and pain...of tears and woes....of dead waterfalls and burning skies....
Well...whatever it is going to be..no use worrying about it now....
Have a ball....make the best of today..it's a gift.....

Stopped to think about it....

What matters more...
A perfect sky....
A breath taking sunset....
The compay of friends...
The perfect love song...
The rain that falls softly on the flower bed....
The smile of a innocent child....
Or someones hand held tightly in yours....
What matter more.....????
